Couples Therapy

Couples Counseling Services

I aim to help both individuals reemerge as their best selves and to also help the third client in the room, the relationship, reemerge as its best self. I believe we allow for the best versions of ourselves, and our relationships, through honesty, integrity, and commitment.

I create a safe and supportive physical and emotional environment in which couples can do their work to heal from the past and change for the present, reinvigorating relationships with love, trust, and passion.

I do not referee, I do not judge, and we don’t keep scores. We have hard, sometimes scary, often emotional conversations in a safe, healthy, and careful way. I will offer navigation through the maze of romantic reparation. I will ask difficult, deep, and unique questions so we can get to the roots of things. I will help you both figure out a plan going forward that gets you where you want.

I believe where you and your relationship are now can be fertile ground for the seeds of the life and the relationship you both want. If you’re considering couples counseling then a part of you, a big part of you, still wants this love and this partnership. I believe we owe it to that part of us to do this hard thing, be vulnerable, open up, seek truth, find healing, repair, and change. It’s worth it.

Q: How long are couples therapy sessions?

A: That’s up to us - I usually suggest 60 or 90 minute sessions, but we can also arrange 2 or 3 hour “intensives”

Q: How long does couples therapy usually last?

A: That’s up to us, also. I generally tell folks to begin giving it at least a three session commitment. My approach to couples therapy is energetic and direct, hoping to identify and address issues and make changes in as little time as possible.

Q: Can I use my health insurance to pay for couples therapy?

A: No, unfortunately health insurance carriers do not cover the cost of couples therapy as relationship issues are not a diagnostic clinical problem.

Q: Are we always in-session together or do we ever meet separately?

A: That very much depends on what we all feel is needed and wanted. There are many times I suggest that an individual session might be helpful for particular parts of the work, but it’s always your choice to accept or not. Similarly, sometimes folks desire an individual session to work on some particular issues with more privacy, which will always be discussed and accomodated if requested with good intention.

Q: What happens if we miss an appointment, or have to reschedule?

A: Any cancellation or miss of an appointment with less than 24 hours notice you will be responsible for, meaning you will pay the cost of the session in full. Any requests made more than 24 hours in advance I will accomodate. Of course, things often come up the day of a session, in which case I generally encourage one of the two of you to attend the session so you can get some use of the time you’re paying for.
