About Me
I…
was born and raised in Southeastern Massachusetts where I spent my youth engrossed in baseball, nature, music, family, friendships, and school. In my teens I developed interests in psychology, current events, and social issues.
With the support of my family I was fortunate to have the opportunity to turn these interests into studies, pursuing Psychology, Addiction Studies, Non-profit Management, and Social Work at university. I studied at Rhode Island College in Providence, RI, an amazing university where I enjoyed a rich, diverse, fulfilling experience and an excellent education.
My career started in the addictions field working with folks in both inpatient and outpatient settings at a time we now consider to be the height of a national opioid overdose epidemic. In this role I came to appreciate how many of our most serious issues as humans require support from one person to another but also require systemic changes on larger scale.
After years of difficult but rewarding work in addictions I transitioned into a role working with home-bound older adults in need of mental health services. In this work I learned of the importance of everyone having access to mental health support.
I then spent many years working in healthcare as a social worker. In this time I enjoyed opportunities to work in dozens of nursing homes, short-term rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and psychiatric hospitals where I gained a variety of valuable experiences.
In 2022 I took the opportunity I’d long waited and prepared for to enter into clinical practice, joining a group practice at a community mental health center. As much as I was proud of, and enjoyed, my other roles in my career, I quickly discovered what felt like a true sense of belonging in the therapy room and a genuine passion for working with clients.
In 2023 I took a risk and opened up my own therapy practice. I knew how I wanted to do this work, treat my clients, and help my community, and felt the only way to do this was to start with my own practice. Since opening my practice I’ve been blessed with a truly amazing group of clients who have done some remarkable work and allowed me to be a part of it, which has allowed me to make a living doing what I love and truly believe in.
Beyond private practice psychotherapy, I have also started and facilitate twice-monthly grief support groups in Fall River, MA and am a Domestic Violence Prevention educator in the corrections system in Rhode Island. I am also a founding Board member of a non-profit arts organization in Rhode Island aimed at connecting a new generation with the arts through accessibility, diversity, and community.
I believe in practicing what I preach, so I make every effort to bring balance to my life. I try to balance my work with frequent exercise, a daily connection to nature, time with people, enjoying live music, reading books, writing and other creative outlets, and a regular spiritual practice including meditation, yoga, and old Ram Dass lectures online.
